DTP Print Operator

Purpose of the Job

This role is responsible for overseeing the pre‑pressing and production workflow, ensuring error‑free transfer from design to print, timely proofing, and coaching staff to deliver quality outputs on schedule. It involves capacity planning and WIP management, monitoring productivity, rectifying faults, and maintaining 100% on‑time delivery of job cards. The position also emphasizes customer serviceexcellence, keeping stakeholders informed, resolving complaints promptly, and fostering a client‑friendly environment.

Key Responsibilities

Pre-pressing

• Monitoring clients brief to put into productions proofing digital format
• Ensuring that no errors occur in transfer from design to print file
• Coach printing staff to provide quality work and on time (100% OTF)
• Can easily explain to staff or clients what is required in different formats
• Understanding colour, panelling, plotting and all relevant production needs
• Jpegs / proofing done within an hour, vehicle branding and tests will be in mornings 24 hours
• Attend meetings to ensure focus if needed with department manager

Workshop Capacity Planning and Work In Progress (WIP)

• All WIP to be up to date, no delays in any way for production
• Monitor productivity and efficiency
• Interact daily with print operators to see opportunities for improvement
• Checking current work for faults and rectifying
• Ensure all vehicles / job cards are 100% OTF and returned to supervisor

Customer Service Levels

• Ensure internal and external customers are kept up to date by updating admin with production progress
• Ensure a customer friendly environment
• Customer complaints to be resolved timorously or reported to the department manager immediately

Workshop Admin

• Ensure 100% accurate.
• Ensure that all required documents are attached to the job cards, manually as well as electronically
• Sign of job cards in line with the requirements e.g: Every job card to be signed to indicate that the work has been QC’d and may proceed to the next department.

Reports

• Production Schedule updates and planning only to inline supervisor (Job card report)

Quality Standards

• Vector artwork or high resolution for Rasta
• Do frequent checks to ensure the required service standards are met
• Test prints for quality and colour
• Machine services and maintenance done regularly to keep operational in full.
• Reducing Waste

Minimum Requirements

• Diploma in DTP Software or Graphic design
• Proven experience within the DTP and Printing environment

Skills Requirements

• Knowledge of a Workshop environment is essential
• Knowledge of Photoshop, Illustrator, CorelDraw and Ripping stations
• Good quality control knowledge
• Understanding of artwork to production
