- 12 bit. Position to position. (6+6) - 10 bit with ID to position (you can use the same ID for black and white pieces). (4+6) - 9 bit with ID to possible stepping positions. (4+5) --- ** the right answer is about 6/7 bit with prefix - you give short ID to the queen (with lot of stepping oportunities) and a long to the pawn (with not so much oportunities).
