Multiple fails for this solicitation - off shore recruiter – heavy Indian accent, but extremely cordial - construction manager contract position is domiciled in Honolulu, I live in deep south USA - contract position, 3 years, with no guarantee past 1st year - no relocation package - no early termination compensation - recruited brought up salary in first 30 seconds of ph call - quoted $100k - I indicated that would limit his search parameters to residents of the Island. He countered that was a personal conclusion. I countered it was extremely objective. It costs approx $20k to relocate a household across 6000 miles of open water, for only a year of promised income, in a highly inflated economy. (a gallon of milk is $5, chicken is $1.50/lb whole, etc.) After a bit of discussion I offered a willingness to consider the position at $160k for the first yr, $140k for the 2nd yr, if optioned, and $120K for the last yr of the contract. He replied that the budget wouldn’t accommodate that….I responded that I fully understood, a lot of finance guys put together budgets that are unreal. The position will likely be filled by a young naïve under experienced single person, who will less than reliable or skilled to complete the work.
