Not really a good question. A Hard Drive refers to a component while a SSD refers to the technology...Flash Drive would be another type of technology and both can be used as a Hard Drive. Currently Hard Drives vary in technology SATA, SCSI, Fiber, SSD, Flash, these type of technology generally refer to how the data is stored and how the data is retrieved. If the question were; Which is better SATA HD or SSD HD the answer would be SSD HD. Actually everything moves up from SATA as far as speed and life span.

Max you misunderstood the question. a Hard Disk Drive HDD always has platters and Solid State Drive SSD has no moving parts. The answer is to point out the benefits of each VS the application. HDD are cheaper per GB, available in larger capacities. SSD's are faster, require less power (extending battery life in portables) make less heat, are less susceptible to physical trauma. There are hybrid drives that combine both into one and some systems have one of each because neither one is superior in all ways (yet).
