The Taste of L'Oreal requires an application in December for the following summer internship. It's very competitive. Applicants need to demonstrate a passion for beauty, consumers, and marketing. Applicants should also think creatively and thoughtfully about their answers. Remember less than 10% of applicants make it to the Taste of L'Oreal event.
Once accepted, L'Oreal really makes you feel special. Upon arrival to a nice hotel in Manhattan, not to far from the HQ building, friendly L'Oreal employees are there to greet you (with a nice gift bag). The weekend is of course stressful, but they make it a lot of fun. It kicks off with a welcome speech an overview of your preferred division (Consumer, Professional, or Luxury). That evening there's drinks with L'Oreal marketers and a few VPs. Very nice.
The next day is critical - it's where you show your marketing expertise, team-working ability, and passion for beauty. In 2010, it was an all-day marketing case-style competition working in teams. Bring it, but also remember to be respectful, kind, and collaborative while also speaking your mind.
The last day is where the interview happens, but from my point of view, it was the case day that drove 80% of the decision. I loved all the L'Oreal people and most of my fellow applicants.
Bottom line - bring your passion and energy, and of course be yourself.
