I start by acknowledging their specific need to show I've listened. Then, I present a Gap Analysis. I explain the "Total Cost of Ownership"—standard features are free to maintain and updated by Salesforce thrice a year, while custom code requires developer maintenance and can break during updates. If they still insist, I document the risks but offer a compromise, like a "Pilot" with the standard feature first.
