In the Star schema, the center of the star may have one fact table and multiple associated dimension table. This schema is optimized for querying large datasets due to the lower nr. of joins necessary. Snowflake is the extension of Star and it adds additional dimensions. These dimensions are normalized so there's less data redundancy.
