Position Summary

We are recruiting a Manufacturing Engineer for a confidential and growing manufacturing company in Tijuana, Baja California, serving the flexible packaging and food packaging industry.

The operation includes blown film extrusion, flexographic printing, and converting processes in a fast-paced, multi-shift manufacturing environment.

This role is ideal for an experienced manufacturing professional who wants to make a direct impact on production efficiency, product quality, food safety compliance, equipment reliability, cost reduction, and continuous improvement.

The Manufacturing Engineer will work closely with Production, Maintenance, Quality, Purchasing, and Management teams to improve operational performance, reduce waste, increase productivity, and support long-term business growth.

This position requires regular presence on the production floor and the ability to support a 24-hour manufacturing operation when needed.

Key ResponsibilitiesManufacturing Engineering & Process Improvement

· Analyze manufacturing processes and identify opportunities to improve productivity, efficiency, quality, safety, and cost.

· Lead continuous improvement initiatives across extrusion, printing, and converting operations.

· Develop and maintain manufacturing procedures, work instructions, SOPs, and process documentation.

· Establish and monitor KPIs related to productivity, scrap, downtime, quality, and labor utilization.

· Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for production and quality issues.

· Participate in equipment evaluations, process trials, and implementation of new technologies.

· Support production scheduling, workflow optimization, waste reduction, throughput improvement, and cost reduction projects.

Production Support

· Work directly with production teams to troubleshoot process issues and improve operational performance.

· Support operator training, process standardization, and best practices.

· Monitor production performance and recommend improvements to reduce variability.

· Coordinate implementation of process changes across departments.

Maintenance Coordination & Technical Support

· Collaborate with Maintenance to improve equipment reliability and preventive maintenance systems.

· Support troubleshooting of manufacturing equipment and identify long-term corrective actions.

· Participate in maintenance planning, equipment improvement projects, installation, startup, and commissioning of new equipment.

· Help identify critical spare parts, reliability improvement opportunities, and technical support needs.

Maintenance Purchasing & Inventory Management

· Support purchasing activities for maintenance-related parts, tools, consumables, and supplies.

· Research and source replacement parts, components, and technical equipment.

· Maintain inventory control systems for maintenance spare parts and supplies.

· Coordinate with vendors and suppliers regarding quotations, pricing, availability, and delivery schedules.

· Support cost control initiatives related to maintenance purchasing and inventory.

Bills of Materials / BOM Management

· Create, maintain, and improve Bills of Materials for finished goods and manufacturing processes.

· Ensure BOM accuracy for production, inventory control, costing, and compliance requirements.

· Coordinate BOM revisions when products, materials, or manufacturing methods change.

· Work with Production, Quality, and Administration teams to maintain accurate product documentation.

Food Safety, GMP & HACCP

· Support and coordinate Good Manufacturing Practices, GMP, and HACCP programs.

· Maintain food safety documentation, procedures, records, and training programs.

· Coordinate internal audits, corrective actions, customer audit preparation, and certification audit support.

· Help ensure compliance with food packaging industry requirements and customer standards.

· Support employee GMP and food safety training activities.

Quality Systems & Compliance

· Support quality improvement initiatives and corrective action programs.

· Participate in customer complaint investigations and root cause analysis.

· Help establish process controls and quality standards.

· Ensure compliance with company procedures and regulatory requirements.

Project Management & Reporting

· Lead and coordinate cross-functional improvement projects.

· Develop project plans, schedules, budgets, and implementation timelines.

· Track project progress and communicate results to management.

· Collect, analyze, and report operational data.

· Develop spreadsheets, reports, and dashboards to support decision-making.

Required Qualifications

· Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electromechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related technical field.

· Minimum 5 years of manufacturing experience required.

· Experience in flexible packaging, plastics, extrusion, printing, converting, food packaging, or related manufacturing processes strongly preferred.

· Experience with blown film extrusion, flexographic printing, converting, laminating, coating, or similar manufacturing operations is highly desirable.

· Experience with continuous improvement projects, process optimization, root cause analysis, KPIs, scrap reduction, downtime reduction, or productivity improvement.

· Experience working directly with production floor teams, operators, supervisors, maintenance, quality, and management.

· Experience with GMP, HACCP, food safety, or quality systems is strongly preferred.

· Experience with purchasing, inventory control, spare parts, maintenance support, or technical sourcing is a plus.

· Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes, industrial equipment, preventive maintenance concepts, and technical documentation.

· Advanced Excel or Google Sheets skills preferred.

· Ability to create reports, analyze data, track KPIs, and manage technical documentation.

Language Requirements

· Fluent Spanish required.

· English proficiency required, ideally 70% to 80% minimum.

· Must be able to communicate effectively in written and spoken English and Spanish.
