Me postulé a través de un reclutador. El proceso tomó 7 semanas. Acudí a una entrevista en Uptake (Chicago, IL)
Entrevista
I was contacted by a recruiter about a potential opportunity. Recruiter was very disorganized. Questions were standard screening questions about background - nothing technical. Also very quick to ask about salary range - slimy.
Recruiter took a week to notify me about next steps. Scheduling was difficult because the recruiter was not great at responding throughout the process.
Next phone interview - More questions about backgound. Described two projects in which I used data analysis. Interview went fine and took about 30 minutes. While describing the projects, the interviewer often interrupted me to excessively nitpick. No other technical questions or brain teasers.
2 weeks later, given 8 hours to complete a case and put together a presentation for a non-technical audience.
8000 training cases from a previous campaign. Goal was to make a recommendation on 30K potential customers to target given that cost per target is $30.
Submitted project and heard back about onsite a week later.
At the onsite, I presented the case to a member of the data science team. The guy was flaccid and feckless. He asked very few questions and for him, interviewing was a chore. I then briefly met the head of the data science team - deer in the headlights and underwhelming.
After, I spoke with 2 more data scientists. One I had already spoken with earlier. Asked me to describe ANOTHER data analysis project - that's 3 total. Last, I was asked how I'd approach anomaly detection. Easy. I was thoroughly unimpressed with the team.
A week later, I received a form email from the recruiter saying no positions matched my skill set. I got no re when I followed up.
Overall very bizarre. Awful process, drawn out, opaque, greasy. Company is disorganized and team is mediocre. The founder is also Groupon's founder - how are they doing again? Uptake has no product and one client who just laid off 10K, yet they're worth 1BB? Not getting this job was a blessing in disguise.

The entire interview process moving from initial phone conversation to final round is fairly short, however, they do a bad job in terms of staying in touch and keeping the candidate informed is reflective of how unorganized this company is.
Interview process consists of a phone call, a take home challenge, and three rounds of technical interview session. One round consisting of explaining the project and the other round consisting of technical questions on the spot. During the take home challenge, you are given 8 hours to complete meaning that if you get the e-mail at 8pm be ready to do an all nighter. Also, make sure to check your e-mail consistently because your time begins when the challenge reaches your inbox.
Please think twice before applying here - probably is not worth your time.
